Preview Build Release v 0.20.04.01

Welcome (Back) To Monday!

After battling sickness, school, and life in general, we're back with a much overdue update. This is a  major update that includes the following and more:

  • Doors & Switches -- now that we have the two most basic puzzle pieces, you can expect more "game" out of Beacon. We're getting close to Alpha!
  • Saving and Loading -- Just like a real game, Beacon now supports saving and loading files! Right now you can save anywhere, but we'll soon be adding save stations in true Metroidvania fashion. Here are some important things to know about the current save/load system:
    • You will always re-load at the first room (Workshop Alpha), no matter where you saved (location data isn't part of the save state yet, but will be soon with the addition of Charging Stations)
    • Visited Rooms and Block locations are saved. Blocks will remain where they're left.
    • There isn't a way to delete saves through the game, but it's safe to delete the save xml file in the game data.
    • Only a certain number of saves will appear correctly on the load screen.
    • The above issues are on the hotlist for fixing, so they are likely to be corrected in minor releases in the coming weeks.
  • A bunch of new art assets
  • Totally new, much improved menu system. Most of the updates are under the hood, but you will notice that the menus now support mouse input.

We want to thank everyone for being patient while we worked through real life challenges. We're hoping to go back to the six-week release structure, putting our next scheduled release on May 25th.

Since there is so much to catch up on, there's a chance we may be posting updates between now and 5/25 as they become ready. We're so close to having the main game loop of puzzle-solving and exploration available that we want to share it as soon as it's ready. Check back often for updates!
